One Way Street

Hey guys, thanks for stopping by today, I appreciate it.

It’s been a while since I’ve posted anything due to a family bereavement but it feels like the time is right to post my latest poem.

It’s called One Way Street, it’s written under the premise that our lives follow a one way street and that once you’re on that one way street there is no going back…only forward so we should make the most of all the connections that we make in life.

I hope you like it.

One Way Street

Life is a one way street
Connection made with people we meet
Things we do, things we say
Connections made every day

The randomness of life’s events
Connections made are on rent
Life’s events come and go
Connections that we reap and sow

Through the streets of life
Connections made with husbands and wives
Though the street won’t be straight
Connections are what it takes

Sometimes high and sometimes low
Connections that stay and some that go
Red lights and green
Connections felt and some seen

Roundabouts
Connections to shout about
Sometimes the road will be lit
Connections that just seem to fit

The road goes forward and not back
Connections so strong but still crack
We travel the road until the light shines red
Connections made that last a lifetime in your heart and in your head.

Thank You

Scent

Hey guys,

Thanks for stopping by today, I appreciate it. Its been a busy week this past week so i’ve not had a chance to put anything in my blog but yesterday I wrote this poem called ‘Scent’.

It’s about the smells that can take us back to a certain place and time, both good and bad, that are stored in our minds.

I hope that you like it.

Scent

Smells from the past are heavens scent
Take us to places where time we’ve spent
Going off in the brain like tiny explosions
Triggered by these smells and potions

Some we like and some we don’t
Times we’ll want to remember and times we won’t
They’re stored in our mind until the door opens
Or perhaps until a time we can cope in

Memories of childhood past
Memories of the years gone fast
Memories of the times we like
Memories of the times we were scared all night

So what is this aromatherapy
It’s for everyone, come and see
It mat be everyone’s cure
But worth a try that’s for sure

They bring us back to the present time
Whether it’s Ylang Ylang or Pine
To help us live in the moments sooth
And prepare us for our brand new groove

Keep On

Good morning everyone,

I hope you are well today, it’s a beautiful Monday morning here in Glasgow, cold but beautiful.

Thank you for checking out my blog, I appreciate it.

I’ve posted below a short poem that I wrote recently called ‘Keep On’, it’s about the times when you think you can’t go on any further, when you can’t see the light of hope…you know what I mean, we’ve been there, right?

Anyway, it’s just a short one, I hope you like it, and again thanks for checking it out.

Keep On

When you’re in darkness, look for the light
When you’re down, find the fight
When you can’t see, open your eyes
Then you’ll see all the reasons to be alive.

Keep on keeping on.

Thanks

A Beauty

Morning guys,

Thanks for stopping by today, in Glasgow it’s a cold a wet morning but that doesn’t mean we can’t feel beautiful inside.

I wrote this pome called ‘A Beauty’ last year at the start of my recovery, it was as a result of my realisation that I had an illness that needed specialist treatment rather than the ways that I had dealt with it all of my life.

For around 6 months prior I was in pain, a pain that I had all my life but it had just gotten steadily worse as a result of the traumas I was experiencing, but during this time I managed to write ‘A Beauty’.

So, here it is, i hope you like it, i’m open to any feedback, so please feel free to contact me and lets connect.

A Beauty

A beauty in the sun
A beauty that is second to none
A beauty you can see as far as the eye
A beauty that can’t be denied

A beauty that fills your life
A beauty in the strength of your wife
A beauty without compare
A beauty that can be seen everywhere

A beauty in everyone
A beauty in fathers and sons
A beauty as clear as the crystal waters
A beauty in mothers and daughters

A beauty that is all around
A beauty from the sky to the ground
A beauty that awaits to be found
A beauty in every sound

A beauty that you can’t see but only feel
A beauty that you must believe is real
A beauty in the fire of desire
A beauty in the match that started my fire

A beauty that I must sustain
Through my dark clouds, wind and rain
Through my storms, troubles and my strife
Only then will I see this beauty really is my life

Solutions

Hi there,

Thanks for stopping by this cold but beautiful winters day.

The poem I decided to post today is called ‘Solutions’, it’s about trying to cope with life when you have Complex Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.

The first line says ‘focus on the solutions not the problems, this can be incredibly difficult due to the nature of mental illness as by it’s very nature you are incapacitated to deal with anything other than the problems, but there is hope and without hope there is nothing.

I hope you like the poem and can relate to it.

Feel free to provide me with feedback or make contact.

Solutions

Focus on the solution and not the problem
It’s a great way to think if you can forget them
To not think of the many things gone wrong
But to think of how to fix them and carry on

To be strong and resilient
Takes a level of courage that’s brilliant
To be able to put the past to one side
And to fill yourself with happiness inside

To think of ways how to resolve
And to figure out how to problem solve
The mysteries of how, why and what
And to carry on and never stop

I’ve always seen myself as strong
But now i’ve been proven wrong
All i’ve ever done is just pretend
And eventually it caught up with me in the end

But I will focus on the solution
With the help of friends and institutions
And begin to lead a fulfilling existence
Without the problems causing resistance

Be

Hey there,

Thanks for stopping by today and checking out my blog, I appreciate it.

My latest poem is a poem called ‘Be’. It’s about learning just how to be yourself when you struggle with your mental health.

I hope you like and can relate.

Be

I wish I could just be
I wish I knew how to be me
And not the me that people see
The real me….not version 1, 2 or 23

To be able to calm my mind and just settle
Not to have to pretend i’m in fine fettle
To just be comfortable in my own skin
When mixing with friends or next of kin

To not have to pretend
That i’m not thinking of my end
To be able to relax and not worry
And stop my mind from saying ‘hurry….hurry’

But I just don’t know who I am
I’ve been lost and sunk in quicksand
And each time I escaped a part of me went missing
Now i’m just a shell, a body, a thing

I don’t want to be version 1, 2 or 23
I don’t want to be the me that people see
I want to know how to just be me
I will know how to just be

Thanks

Numb

Hi there,

Thanks for stopping by my blog today, I appreciate it.

I wrote this poem called ‘Numb’ in the Spring of last year to describe exactly how i felt to everything going on around me. Spring is a wonderful time of year yet I could not see it.

I hope that you like this poem.

Numb

I numb all my feelings and emotions
So that I can seem as calm as the oceans
No highs or lows every day
Just getting through in any way

I try and hide the shame
From the many sins against my name
Too scared to love for fear of punishment
Too scared to be open for fear of judgement

Can I embrace the vulnerability?
I’m not sure that I have the ability
To be an open book
To allow everyone an inside look

Into my heart and soul
And see why I can’t be whole
But maybe I can defy
And I can begin and I can try

I believe in the need for connections
I’ve steered clear of them like an infection
But I know now the value
Of the connections with you, you, you, you and you.

Ascent

Hi there,

Thanks for stopping by today, i’m grateful that you chose to look at my blog.

Below is a poem wrote in the early stages of my breakdown, it’s called ‘Ascent’.

It describes the feeling every morning when waking up of trying to get through the day and feeling like you have to climb a mountain just to cope.

I hope you like it and perhaps can even relate to it.

Ascent

Each day I wake at the foot of the mountain
When all I want to do is drink from life’s fountain
Knowing i’m going to climb through rocks and rubble
Trying to conquer my fears and troubles

Each night I reach the mountains peak
But of my troubles I did not speak
To speak of them would make them real
Then people would judge me and how I feel

The ascent takes all day and night
But inside my head it’s a continual fight
I keep repeating ‘I shall overcome’
But I wish sometimes I had a gun

I’m the world’s best mountaineer
But with each mountain I climb I can’t get nearer
To peace and tranquility
No matter how good my climbing ability

I fear i’ll be found on a mountain side
Half way up with nowhere to hide
All of my traumas fully exposed
And dead from my head to my toes

Diamonds

Hi there,

Thank you very much for stopping by my blog today, I appreciate it.

Below is a short poem I wrote called ‘Diamonds’.

I hope that you like it.

Diamonds

The diamonds sparkle like your eyes
Except for the times I made you cry
The sparkle is there but has now lost it’s shine
They’ve lost their lustre over time

Bur perhaps with enough love and care
I can get the diamonds to return there
To the place they belong
Now and forever long.

Thanks

Real To Me

Hi there,

Thanks for stopping by my blog today, I appreciate it.

I wrote a poem recently called ‘Real To Me’, it’s about my own perception of reality whilst suffering from Complex Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (CPTSD).

I hope that you like it.

Real To Me

My reality is different from everyone else’s
We’re each the centre of our own universes
In the middle of our own little bubbles
Dealing with our own fears and troubles

I know me but don’t know you
You may think you know me too
But I know I won’t let you in
For fear you see all my sins

There are too many to remember
Yet some burn like hot embers
Every day upon my soul
Knowing each one takes it’s toll

But I know what makes me happy
He’s my 2 year old son still in nappies
He’s the weeguy that we call Blaine
Who keeps me from going insane

Thank You
